Professional values: diversity versus disintegration.

I was very excited by the special issue on spiri[Uality in occupational therapy (A]OT, March 1997). Being a Christian myself, I believe that the therapist's ability [Q connect with the client on a spiriruallevel is imporrant. Howard and Howard's arricle, "Occupation as Spiritual Acrivity," pointed out that occuparional therapy's goal of using purposeful acrivity [Q bring meaning [Q treatment complements the thought that spirituality is rhe fIlter for choosing life's meaningful acrivities. I applaud the authors of this article for providing a voice to therapists who understand rhat some clients need [Q integrate rheir beliefs intO all aspects of their life, even rrearment. I believe spirituality is the hidden factor in the more politically correct phenomenon of wellness and should be furrher addressed at the national level. My hope is that we continue to discuss those topics that provide meaning to dients even if the topics are controversial or unpopular.
